A free online educational service offered by the Smithsonian for use by K-12 grade Teachers and students.  TTribune consists of daily news sites for kids, tweens, and teens, and includes text, photos, graphics, and audio and/or video materials prepared by the Smithsonian and others about current events, history, art, culture and science. TTribune also includes lessons, instructional and assessment tools, and opportunities for the registered users to communicate with other participants.

Common Sense:  Classroom Rules...

Open the discussion of classroom rules using scenes from the movie Despicable Me 2.

  • LearnZillion Lesson Plan Sets: There are more than 2,000 Common Core lesson plans on LearnZillion. Currently, the majority of standards are covered, with lessons coming soon in a few areas. In the middle grades, there are hundreds of free resources.

  • ShareMyLesson Common Core Sets: ShareMyLesson brings together Common Core-aligned lessons from all over the web. It’s a massive collection that’s easy to navigate. Also, all lessons featured on the site are free, and they’re organized by standard. The middle grades are covered in-depth here, with options for searching by grade level.

  • OER Commons Lesson Plan Database: Launched in 2007, OER Commons curates the best open-source lesson plans on the Web. They’re easy to search for, and they’ve been developed by established education groups and state departments of education. Plenty of great middle school resources here.

  • Free Resources from Achieve The Core: Created by Student Achievement Partners -- a nonprofit founded by three Common Core writers -- the website features plenty of resources produced in-house. These activities are arranged by standard, and there a bunch of fun, engaging activities by grade.

  • Thinkfinity Lesson Plans for Teachers: Thinkfinity showcases lesson plans from a bunch of favorite sources like ArtsEdge, EDSITEment, and ReadWriteThink. To search, select Common Core Standards in the search window, and you'll find many different aligned lesson plans from Thinkfinity's partners.
